Kendal Wattsfield opened their Cumbrian Woman’s league season with an impressive 5-1 victory at Carlisle City Ladies.

Kendal Wattsfield update
Kendal Wattsfield Ladies, preparations for the new season have been blighted by postponements, they were due to play Harraby away on the opening day but because the opposition had problems getting a referee the match couldn’t go ahead. Meanwhile Kendal Wattsfield were also scheduled to be home to Whitehaven on Sunday but because Whitehaven are in the fa cup that pretty much wrote that match off. Despite the frustrations training has gone very well, 20 players have turned up on a consistent basis and have taken to Grahams coaching and management. The team are enjoying the sessions and getting closer as a unit, they are all improving week by week. They have had 2 sessions at the football ground and they have been productive as they get use to the facilities at Parkside. Last Sunday they had an 8 aside match with each other which was a good workout for the whole team. The pre season matches they have had have gone okay, they enjoyed an 11-0 win at Ingleton with Joanne Thompson and Becca Knowles grabbing hat tricks in the victory. However they suffered 2 defeats too Lancaster Ladies, a 5-2 home loss, where Joanne and Becca scored again, and a 5-0 away loss at The Giant Axe in Lancaster. Fatigue was the main reason for that defeat. On the whole we now have a squad of 22-23 players, and each of them have a lot of ability, which makes for an interesting season. The Woman’s league for Kendal Wattsfield will now start on Sunday 11th October with an away trip to Carlisle City at the Sheepmount Stadium. Their 1st home match is scheduled for Sunday 18th at home to current woman’s league champions Dalton Utd (11.30 am kick of) A match before the 11th could be arranged dependant on how the other teams are fixed up, but all information will be posted on here as soon as I hear anything.

Wednesday 19th August: Phoenix Ladies (A) 6.30 pm kick off
Sunday 30th August: Lancaster City Ladies (H) 2pm kick off
Wed 9th Sept: Ingleton Ladies (A) 6.30pm kick off, (the match to be played either in Ingleton or Burton in Lonsdale)
The season starts on the 20th September with an away trip to Harraby Ladies!

Kendal Town Ladies now Kendal Wattsfield Ladies
Kendal Town's Ladies have now merged with Wattsfield, under the new name of Kendal Wattsfield. Everything was given the green light by both club's on Sunday evening, and it's a crucial step forward for the development of Ladies football in the area. The new manager is Graham Nicholson, and they have already started training at Howard Street. Kendal Wattsfield have applied to take part in the 2009/2010 Cumbrians Womans league where it will be entering into it's 2nd season. We also have the opportunity of taking part in The Woman's FA Cup (starting at the qualifying stages of course)
