Carlisle City 1, Kendal Wattsfield Ladies 5

Kendal Wattsfield opened their Cumbrian Woman’s league season with an impressive 5-1 victory at Carlisle City Ladies.

The girls started the match positively having most of the play, but without finding that incisive pass. However as the half went on they got stronger as both Becca Knowles and Faye Armstrong saw their efforts hit the post. Despite the missed opportunities Kendal Wattsfield grabbed the 1st goal of the game when Joanne Thompson struck on the 24th minute giving the girls the perfect start. It was a good finish by Joanne who got into the penalty box to clinically finish giving the keeper no chance.

The lead was extended on 40 minutes when Becca Knowles finished from close range giving the Kendal Wattsfield Ladies a commanding 2-0 half time lead.

In the 2nd half the girls continued to play some good football, making it 3 on 48 minutes through Grania Shankley and 4 on 59 through Jenny Carradus. In such a commanding position the girls kept going creating more chances, and defending any attacking threat that Carlisle City posed.

Nicola Martindale then struck for Kendal Wattsfield’s 5th with a stunning strike on 83 minutes, before Carlisle City grabbed a consolation on the 90th with a well taken strike.

Overall a good start to the merger, and an impressive performance of good passing football, and it was a pleasant surprise to see them play so well so early in the season.
