Kendal Wattsfield Ladies 3, Dalton Utd 1

Sunday 18 October 2009

Lakeland Radio Stadium, Kendal

Kendal Wattsfield entertained Dalton in their first home match of the season and ran out worthy 3-1 winners.

Doing most of the attacking and playing some excellent passing football, Kendal Wattsfieldcreated numerous chances, but could not find a way past a very good Dalton ’keeper, who made two outstanding saves in the first half. With half time approaching KW finally broke the deadlock, when Jo Thompson received the ball on the edge of the penalty area, beat the last defender and shot high into the goal.

However, with only thirty seconds remaining, Dalton equalised with their first shot on goal. A good down their right, kendal Wattsfield failed to clear the cross into the box and the centre forward struck from close range.

The beginning of the second half saw Dalton come more into the match, but KW soon wrestled back the initiative and began to create more chances. On the hour a stroke of luck allowed them to retake the lead, as Faye Armstrong, the ‘keeper and a defender all slide towards the ball. After a few ricochets, the ball struck Faye in the face and into the unguarded goal.

With five minutes left the game was put beyond doubt, as, again, Faye Armstrong found herself in space and slotted the ball past the advancing ‘keeper.
