Whitehaven Ladies 4, Kendal Wattsfield 0

Sunday 6 December 2009

Focus Scaffolding Sports Complex, Whitehaven

Kendal Wattsfield’s unbeaten start to the season ended in defeat as they lost 4-0 at Whitehaven in what was their first league match in four weeks.

Playing on an unfamiliar surface and into a very strong wind in the first half, Kendal Wattsfield contained the Whitehaven attack to half-chances. Once the team realised that they could compete with a strong, physical Whitehaven team they started to come forward and created a couple of chances late on in the half.

As both teams went in at half time it was Kendal Wattsfield who were the happier of the two camps.

Having battled exceptionally well in the first half, Kendal Wattsfield lost the match
in a six minute spell following the half time break. Poor marking
allowed the Whitehaven forwards to run through and place their shots
past ‘keeper Kim Lupton for the first two goals, then it was 3-0 when the ball was bundled over the line following a very good free kick.

Kendal Wattsfield could have folded and conceded more but they found their composure and began to compete again. As Kendal created very little in clear goal scoring opportunities, Joanne Thompson could have grabbed a consolation for the visitors only too see her attempted lob go wayward.

However Whitehaven finished the game off with eight minutes left when their centre forward stepped inside Katie Brown to curl the ball over Kim Lupton and into the net.

So not a good afternoon for Kendal Wattsfield, as they will be looking to bounce back for the away trip to Harraby on Sunday 13 December.
