Sunday 13 December 2009

Penrith. Cumbria Women's League

Kendal Wattsfield suffered their second defeat on the bounce after losing 5-2 to Harraby, in a match which was played on a 3G surface in Penrith following the effects of recent bad weather in Cumbria.

Harraby started well and had the better opportunities early on the half, and their good start paid dividends when they went ahead on the 34th minute. The goal came about from a hopeful cross which evaded everyone to creep in at the far post.

Despite the setback Kendal had a strong finish to the half creating five good opportunities.

At the start of the second half Kendal Wattsfield continued to press, and were rewarded on 52 minutes when Vicky Jones’ powerful free kick rebounded off the post to Joanne Thompson who headed home from close range.

However Kendal’s joy was short lived, as Harraby headed themselves in front two minutes later from a well-taken corner.

From that point on Harraby struck two more times in a 15 minute spell giving them a 4-1 lead. KW did fight back and showed a lot of fighting spirit, with Joanne Thompson grabbing her second and Kendal’s second on the 84th minute after getting on the end of a goalmouth scramble to strike past the keeper.

Harraby though finished the game off grabbing a fifth in the 89th minute keeping the host’s unbeaten record intact.

They now go into the Christmas break as they look forward to a good start on Sunday, 17 January 2010 when they host Whitehaven.
