Kendal
will be looking to build on their 1st league win of the season as
they make the long trip to North Yorkshire to face early season
strugglers Whitby Town in this Bank Holiday Monday encounter. Performances
have been very good from Kendal’s point of view and the 2-0 victory
over Eastwood was just reward for their good play. The team looks
pretty solid, the likes of Alex Taylor, Anthony Murt and Lee Ashcroft
impressed at the weekend, whilst the back 4 and the midfield were
superb. Town will need to play of the same standard this Bank Holiday
Monday as Whitby will be keen and eager to get their season up and
running. Team News: Lee Ashcroft is likely to stick with the same
side that beat Eastwood at the weekend, the only real question mark
is whether Lee Ashcroft will start himself or decide to stay on
the bench. If he start’s he is likely to go up front with Alex Taylor
meaning Anthony Murt drops to the bench. If not the striking partnership
of Murt and Taylor will remain. Last time we played each other:
Kendal Town did the double over Whitby last season winning 2-1 up
at the Turnbull ground and coming back from a goal down to win 3-2
at The Lakeland Radio Stadium. The Opposition: Whitby Town remain
pointless and goalless from their 1st 3 Unibond Premier Division
matches. It has been a struggle for Whitby who avoided relegation
in last season’s campaign; the general performances haven’t been
that fantastic which makes the game against Kendal a massive one
for them. Players to watch out for: Despite Whitbys troubles they
do have some players that will cause Kendal problems. Danny Brunskill:
A striker who is one of the most sought after strikers in the Unibond
Premier. He has made 128 appearances for Whitby netting 75 goals.
You will always see his name at the top end of the goal scoring
charts come the end of the season. He has a devastating left foot
finish which makes him one of the most feared marksmen at this level.
Tony Hackworth: A former Leeds United, Notts County and Scarborough
midfielder who made his return to Whitby for a 2nd spell in March
2008. One of the highlights in their 2-0 defeat at Matlock on Saturday.
Mark Tinkler: has bags of experience of playing league football
after spells with Leeds, York, Southend and Hartlepool. Was signed
after being released by Livingston at the end of last season. A
very committed player who will lead by example. Andy Burton: An
overlapping full back who can use both feet, he can put a good cross
in and is physically fit. He is also a very committed player who
never backs out of a challenge. Where the game will be won and lost?
Kendal need to play like they have been doing to pick up the 3 points,
Whitbys confidence is low and they are bound to be slightly edgy
after 3 straight league defeats. So Kendal need to put them on the
back foot early and hopefully go a goal in front as soon as possible.
If Town can strike early Whitby will start to feel the pressure
which will work in Kendal’s favor. Whitby will be desperate not
to make it 4 defeats on the bounce, they always get a good support
from the stands, and the atmosphere is sure to be an electric one
this Bank Holiday Monday. They will likely play this game in determined
fashion which could make the afternoon uncomfortable for Kendal.
However if Kendal keep playing like they have been doing, they should
get something from this match.
