A great performance from Kendal Town that puts to bed the massively bad game at Nelson FC on Saturday. Against a very strong Morecambe side, Town played the better football on a horrible, rainy night. Town went behind in the 3rd minute when 'keeper David Newnes misread the flight of a cross allowing Rene Howe to head home. Town responded well and had two clear cut chances to level, but Gareth Arnison's great work wasn't followed up by Alex Taylor...and then Arnison was denied. On 17 minutes the Morecambe 'keeper (Scott Davies) was sent from the field for hacking down Alex Taylor when clean in on goal..a penalty was awarderd, but the substitute 'keeper saved from Taylor. On 28 minutes Lee Mulvaney levelled for Kendal Town following a great interception from Gareth Arnison. So it was 1-1 at half time. The second half belonged to Kendal Town totally as we ran our higher league opponents ragged. Paul Byrne hit the crossbar with a speculative effort. Town were defending across the pitch as a unit and pressing forward at every opportunity. Callum Warburton made it 2-1 to Kendal Town on 64 minutes with a 25 yard screamer. Carl Osman ghosted past three defenders into the area, but his shot was saved. Two good saves in a minute kept Morecambe in the game, firstly Mulvaney had a shot stopped by the 'keepers' legs and then Lee Ashcroft's effort was well saved. But just a minute later the game was won for Kendal Town as Alex Taylor finished neatly on 72 minutes after good work from Mulvaney. David Newnes had to be alert in the closing minutes as he pulled off a great save to deny Morecambe's best move of the game. We can take great things from this game as our regular first teamers are getting back into the side we want to start the season....watch out Lancaster City this Saturday.
