Kendal Town 4 v Sunderland 9
13th August 2008

An absolutely brilliant night for Kendal Town FC. Town as we were faced by a Premiership club that had brought international players and lads that had made their mark in the Premiership. A great crowd assembled to see a great game of football...the final score didn't seem to matter to those that witnessed a feast of skill, good play, stamina and goals. Kendal Town openened the scoring on just 6 minutes when Lee Mulvaney darted in to make it 1-0 to Town to the amazement of all in the ground. "Normal" service was restored shortly after when Martyn Waghorn levelled for the black cats on 9 minutes. As all expected Town to fold, they went into a period of play that stunned their much higher league opponents and ran the game unopposed as Lee Ashcroft made it 2-1 to Town on 13 minutes, it got even better just moments later as Michael Cole made it 3-1 to the Town on 15 minutes. Kendal Town, at this stage, were running the game. Great interplay between Lee Ashcroft and his midfielders was really showing the Unibond side to be the the better team. Not suprisingly Alex Taylor made it 4-1 to the Unibond side on 32 minutes after great work from Carl Osman....this was to prove the highlight of the night for a Kendal Town crowd that could not believe what they were witnessing !! Swedish international Rade Prica latched on to a cross ball to make the score 4-2 on the stroke of half time. Sunderland came out for the second half with a totally different attitude and looked like a side that meant business. A Kendal Town own goal on 48 minutes opened the floodgates as Sunderland pressed on the gas On 50 minutes they made it 4-4 after full back Robbie Weir scored. A couple of goals in a minute really rallied the Premiership outfit, on 56 minutes Rade Prica grabbed his second of the night and on 57 minutes Martyn Waghorn grabbed his second goal of the night to put Sunderland 6-4 up. The impressive Waghorn completed his hat trick on 59 minutes to take the score to out of Town's reach at 4-7. Sunderland's Jordan Henderson then finished off Town with goals in the 65th and 89th minute. I'm sure that everyone that attended the game enjoyed....A massive THANK YOU to Sunderland FC...we hope you have a great season and we would love to welcome you back.
